Choose Your Hard

We all get to choose our hard. There is no easy.

It’s hard to build a business. It’s hard to lead people. It’s hard to leave home before the sun comes up, work late, and carry the weight of responsibility on your shoulders.  But it’s also hard to struggle financially. It’s hard to feel stuck. It’s hard to wonder what could have been if you had taken a chance on yourself.

It’s hard to stay disciplined with your health. It’s hard to get up and exercise when you’d rather sleep in. It’s hard to eat right when convenience is calling your name.  But it’s also hard to be out of shape, tired all the time, and unable to do the things you wish you could do.

It’s hard to have difficult conversations. It’s hard to be honest. It’s hard to apologize. It’s hard to tell people what they need to hear.  But it’s also hard to live with resentment, broken relationships, and words left unsaid.

Life is hard no matter what!

The question isn’t whether you’ll face difficulty. The question is which difficulty you’re willing to choose. I’ve found that when you consistently choose the harder path upfront, life often becomes easier over time. Discipline creates freedom. Preparation creates confidence. Responsibility creates opportunity.

The opposite is true as well however. When we continually choose what’s easy in the moment, we often create bigger difficulties later. Avoidance compounds just like effort does.

Easy choices tend to produce hard lives, and hard choices tend to produce easier lives. Nobody escapes difficulty. We simply decide when and how we’re going to pay the price. And thats what is so special, yet so difficult about life…it’s hard no matter what.

So choose your hard.
