Being Present

The right future is built in the present moment.

When we live with one foot in yesterday and the other in tomorrow… we usually end up just screwing up today.  We have to be where our feet are. That’s where the magic is. The present is the gift.

That sounds easy when life is going well. Presence comes naturally when we feel joy, momentum, and peace in the moment. In those seasons, its easy, we want to soak it all in!

But many of us treat presence, or being in the moment, as if it was a reward.  We treat is as a result, rather than a cause:  Once things get fixed, then I’ll enjoy life.  Once I get there, then I’ll have peace.  Once the future feels secure, then I can be present.

But, that is completely backwards.  More often than not, God places the answer inside the struggle itself. The right future is built in the present moment.

Yes, planning matters. Goals matter. Vision matters.  But we still have to block and tackle what’s right in front of us…and enjoy every moment of it.  That’s where peace is found.  That’s where growth happens.  That’s where joy becomes rooted in process, rather than in outcomes.

Presence is not a result of a life going well. It is the cause.

So, be present. You are right where you need to be.
