Loosen Up

We don’t stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.

If you’re not having fun with your life, it’s time to make some changes. No matter what’s going on in your life, loosen up! To desire success is a great thing, but pursuing it with clinched fists and too much intensity is a sure way to failure.  Too many people make such hard work of something that they advance painfully slow. Often they don’t even make it.

Expect impasses. Expect frustrations.  Give them a laugh, be thankful for the test, and get back up. Always get back up.

As soon as we reach the end, when we accomplish our goal, it does make us feel great.  However, this celebration is short lived. We will soon become restless and begin looking for our next challenge. The truth is we never really reach the end.  We become stir crazy until we find the next goal. It’s an endless cycle, so you might as well enjoy the ride.

If you are a true artist of your craft, its the journey that you truly enjoy day in and day out. You embrace the challenges, they hone your craft.

In contrast, when we take ourselves too serious, challenges seem painful and they drain our energy. We progress very slowly.  If we have an attitude of fun, our challenges become exciting opportunities.  Life is just better.

THE WEEKEND

No matter how important you think your life is – whether you’re leasing real estate space, you’re CEO of a small company and lead 100 people, you’ve invented some unique device and are collecting $1 million a year in royalties, or even if you are President of the United States…I have news for you….your lot in life is not as important as you think.

When you’re dying, lying in bed and thinking about your life, the things you will cherish and give value to your lifetime have nothing to do with your position in life. It will be the challenges you overcame (how you got up), the laughs and fun times you remember, and the people who show up to celebrate your life.  People like honest fun people.

Your problems aren’t unique and different from anyone else’s. Enjoy the ride, there’s no accomplishment if you’re not laughing along the way.

Look at your own life this weekend and see if you are taking yourself too serious. Chances are…you are.
