It’s All Special
We spend so much of our lives leaning into tomorrow.
What needs to get done. What could go wrong. What we’re trying to accomplish. Where we need to be next. And of course, we have to think about the future. We should plan, prepare, dream, and build. But we can’t become so consumed with tomorrow that we miss today.
Someday you may look back and realize that the moments you miss most weren’t the big ones. They were the ordinary ones. The Tuesday morning run group. Sitting at the kitchen table with someone you love. Walking the dog around the neighborhood. Or maybe just a phone call with mom and dad.
I know perhaps better than most how quickly an ordinary moment can change the course of your life. Life can change in an instant. And when it does, you realize how little of life was ever ordinary. It’s all so special.
We spend so much time waiting for the next thing—the vacation, the promotion, the weekend, the accomplishment, the finish line. But life isn’t waiting for us somewhere out there.
This is it. Right here, right now. This morning. This conversation. This meal. This walk. Today.
There will come a day when you would give anything to come back to this exact moment—the one you almost forgot to notice. I promise you that.
